loan signings
With the imminent loan deals that we are bound to do in the next week ,I am trying to think the last loan deal that actually worked for us. Obviously Jenkinson aside there hasn't been a worthwhile deal

Didn't we have Carroll on loan originally!

How's that worked out, hope he comes good and has a storming rest of season!

Spot on, also should be a rule on how many players you can have out on loan at any one time. I'm sure I read somewhere that Chelsea had about 25 players out on loan a few years back.

Have to say I agree with Full Claret Jacket.

The loan system is being abused by those that can....buy up all the prospects, loan them out, flog those that come good at a profit.

Chelsea signed a Brazilian the other day who can't gwtva work permit....sonthey just loan him out and see what happens.

It's no different to the 3rd party ownerships we got in trouble over.

Loans should be about player development in a lower league. Personally I don't think loaning players abroad should be allowed either...the purpose should be purely young player development, or emergencies (like keeper cover).

It's too easy at the moment to buy up loads of players, then just loan them out for their whole contract waiting to see what happens.

Re: loan signings
Loans within the same league should be banned. It should be a system where lower league clubs can loan prospects or experienced players that can't get enough first team action.
Chelsea are using the loan market as a business.
Our loan strategy seems to be that it's a low risk and cheap way of bringing in more players for a year.

My issue is that if you show little commitment and faith in these players to actually buy them then how can they really feel part of the team and future of the club.

That's complete bollocks. Atletico Madrid loaned Courtois and won the league and got to the CL final. Chelsea and Man Utd both loaned Falcao recently.

There've been countless loan signings by ambitious clubs, even more so in recent years with reduced squad sizes and the FFP regulations.

Not sure how much he cost but Liverpool when they needed a full back have gone and bought this 18yo Joe Gomez from Charlton.
Didn't look out of place against Arsenal last night.
A far better strategy and I don't believe there aren't others around to develop like him.

Illunga was great on loan - shit afterwards.

Schemmel was okay on loan - great in his 1st season afterwards - shit after that.

Andy Carroll was okay on loan - always injured after that.

Generally speaking the loan deals are fine. It's when we actually buy the player that it's a problem.

Re: loan signings
Loans are proper two bob. They were meant to help the lower league clubs not help a tight fisted owner get out of the hole he's dug.

Developing other club's players is not the behaviour of a club with ambition.

Dani was more like 20 years ago. I was there in the Spurs end, right behind the goal we scored in. My memory was it hit him on the head and went in, as he couldn't get out of the way in time. We both looked at each other, smiled & put our thumbs up! We won 1-0.
